Dental Crowns

Crowns – are tooth coverings that enclose the entire tooth surface. This covering restores the tooth to its natural size and shape. This type of restoration strengthens and protects the remaining tooth structure that otherwise would not be able to be restored with any other type of restoration; such as fillings, inlays, onlays, or veneers. Porcelain crowns are the preferential choice of material; however gold and precious metal crowns are available.

The following are conditions of why a crown could be the restoration of choice.

  • Deep tooth decay
  • Fractured/Broken tooth
  • Fractured/large filling
  • Cosmetic
  • Root Canaled tooth

Crowns are full coverage restorations that appear as natural teeth; size, color, shape and feel. These are long lasting solutions to improve the health and appearance of your mouth. Like most dental work they may need to be replaced at some future point… but the health, beauty, long lasting, natural smile they provide for you is priceless.

What your crown appointments will involve:

Crown procedures normally take up to two appointments.

First appointment will generally take up to an hour to 90 minutes: providing sufficient anesthetic, impressions (molds of your teeth used to create the temporary and permanent crown), removing decay leaving solid tooth structure, preparing/placing temporaries to protect the tooth while in transition.

The wait for the permanent crown is usually between ten days to two weeks.

Last appointment will take approximately 30 minutes. Proper spacing and bite will be checked to ensure ultimate fit of the new crown..

Office was soothing and efficiently run…a definite two thumbs up!!
