Endodontics

Why is endodontic treatment needed?

Signs and Symptoms – (often referred as ‘deep cleaning’)

    • Sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweets
    • Pain when chewing or biting
    • Tenderness to touch
    • Drainage

And sometimes there are no symptoms.

Procedure
Once the canals are cleaned and shaped for the filling the dentist places a rubber like material called gutta-percha with adhesive into the canals. After this procedure is completed the dentist will place a temporary filling before starting the restorative work.

FYI
The dentist may opt to have the second appointment or finish the root canal until a week or so after the first appointment; to ensure that the root canal was successful.

Fun Trivia
The word “endo “comes from the Greek meaning inside and “odont” is Greek for tooth; endodontic is treatment for inside the tooth. 🙂
